Spring is in the Air

Happy Spring, James Ardiel Community! We are SO lucky to have these beautiful Cherry Blossom trees on our school grounds. This week students read under them, as we enjoyed library class outside!

J.A. teachers were happily busy reading books over Spring break. I hope you also got a chance to read a great book !

This month we are celebrating Love Your Library. At James Ardiel, we discussed the reasons why we love our library. Some thoughts were because of the new books, a comfy place to read, and the apps we learn on the iPads. This year has looked a little different with what we are able to do, but we still greatly appreciate our library!

Reading over the Winter Break

Happy Holidays, James Ardiel Community.  I want to remind you of some options for reading over the winter break. These options don't even require you to leave your home and go to a library. With your public library card ready, try downloading the Libby app. It gives you access to all the books from your public library, including audio, chapter books, and picture books. Here is a picture of what the app looks like.

Don't forget about the Surrey Schools Digital Resources, where you can access online libraries such as World Book Kids Early Learning, Tumblebooks, and Bookflix. Check out Surrey ONE for passwords for all of these resources. Get a parent to help you if needed. Here is a direct link to the passwords, just in case you need help.

I hope you get cozy and enjoy lots of great books over the winter break!

Hair Love

This week we talked about what makes each of us unique. We can share our unique styles and personality through our hair, and also through our clothes, glasses, freckles, and more. It’s fun to embrace what makes us special and be proud of who we are! We read the excellent book, Hair Love and also watched the Oscar winning, short animated film. Below is a sample of some of our drawings.

Hibernation

This week in the learning commons, students explored the topic of Hibernation. We read books about hibernating animals, we researched hibernating animals on World Book Kids Online, and we checked out the fascinating grouse mountain bear cam. Students learnt about Grinder and Coola and their amazing survival story. Vancouver author Shelley Hrdlitschka wrote a book about them called The Grizzlies: The True Adventures of Coola and Grinder of Grouse Mountain.

Here are the books we read:

When we looked at the Bear Cam, Grinder and Coola weren't moving at all, they were cuddled up so close. When I checked the bear came later on, they were moving very slowly. Here is a picture of them cuddling. Can you think of other animals that hibernate?

Fall Has Arrived

Hello James Ardiel students!  As the leaves are changing colours on the James Ardiel school grounds, we can see that Fall has definitely arrived. Have you noticed the leaves are changing colours? We have many great Fall picture books in the Library for you to check out.

With Thanksgiving coming up this weekend, I am reminded of how thankful I am to teach all of you in the Library. What are you thankful for? If you're not sure, we will talk about Thankfulness and Gratitude this week. We have many interesting Thanksgiving books on display for you to read!
